The college football all-star games begin this week and the Bruins will be well represented. In addition, several former Bruins were in action over the weekend in the NFL Playoffs. Current Bruin center Jake Brendel was named to the Freshman All-America team as selected by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA).

College All-Star Games:

Jan. 11 - Casino del Sol All-Star Game features safety Dalton Hilliard and long snapper Kevin McDermott - Site: Tucson, AZ - Game time: 7 p.m. MT; Media - ESPN3 and watchESPN.com

Jan. 19 - Raycom College All-Star Game features wide receiver Jerry Johnson - Site: Montgomery, AL - Game time: 2 p.m. CT; Media - CBS Sports Network

Jan. 19 - East-West Shrine Game features defensive back Aaron Hester, offensive lineman Jeff Baca, y receiver Joseph Fauria, defensive back Sheldon Price - Site: St. Petersburg, FL - Game time: 4 p.m. ET; Media - NFL Network

Jan. 19 - NFL Players Association Collegiate Game features defensive back Andrew Abbott fullback David Allen, defensive lineman Donovan Carter, quarterback Kevin Prince and linebacker Damien Holmes - Site: The Home Depot Center on the campus of Cal State Dominguez Hills in Carson, CA - Game time: 6 p.m. ET; Media - ESPN2; selected practices will be televised during the week on ESPNU; former Bruin head coach Dick Vermeil is slated to serve as head coach of one team.

Jan. 26 - Senior Bowl features running back Johnathan Franklin, punter Jeff Locke and defensive lineman Datone Jones - Site: Mobile, AL - Game time: 3 p.m. CT; Media - NFL Network; Note - teams coached by NFL staffs from the Detroit Lions and the Oakland Raiders and selected practices will be televised during the week.

NFL Update: linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo of the Baltimore Ravens made two solo tackles; safety Rahim Moore and receiver Matt Willis of the Denver Broncos had a first-round bye; Punter Chris Kluwe of the Minnesota Vikings averaged 49.6 yards on five punts; Matthew Slater of the New England Patriots (Pro Bowl selectee) had a first-round bye; Tight end Logan Paulsen of the Washington Redskins made two receptions for 15 yards, including a four-yard scoring catch; Kicker Kai Forbath made both PATs, but missed his first field goal attempt of the season (17 of 18 for the year).

Several Bruins have signed futures contracts with NFL teams going forward -- DB Bret Lockett - New York Jets; WR Terrence Austin - Washington Redskins; DL Brian Price - Dallas Cowboys.
