LOS ANGELES - The 15th-ranked Bruins tied a school record with eight doubles, including two each by senior Katie Schroeder, junior B.B. Bates and freshman Stephany LaRosa, as UCLA defeated Cal State Northridge 10-3 on Wednesday at Easton Stadium. Schroeder and sophomore Talee Snow also hit home runs.

The Bruins improve to 30-12 on the season, while the Matadors fall to 8-32.

The eight two-baggers equaled the mark set by the Bruins on Feb. 21, 1999 against Portland State and March 2, 2007 versus Long Beach State. Bates, LaRosa and Schroeder each had three hits, while Snow produced a pair. Bates drove in four runs, LaRosa scored three, Schroeder scored four and had two RBI and Snow was plated twice.

Junior Destiny Rodino picked up the win in relief to improve to 4-1 on the season, tossing 1 2/3 innings of hitless ball. She struck out one and walked one. Freshman Ally Carda started and fanned one in 3 1/3 innings, allowing three runs, five hits and two walks. Sophomore Jessica Hall tossed a pair of 1-2-3 frames in the sixth and seventh, striking out three.

Cal State Northridge jumped out to a 2-0 lead in its first at-bat. Madeline Sale doubled to right-center, and one out later, moved to third on a bunt single by Jaci Carlsen. After Carlsen moved to second on a wild pitch, Mikayla Thielges singled up the middle to bring home both runners.

The Bruins tied things up in their first at-bat, producing three straight doubles by Schroeder, LaRosa and senior Andrea Harrison to make it 2-all.

UCLA scored four times in the second. With one out, back-to-back doubles by Snow and Schroeder gave the home team a 3-2 lead. LaRosa then walked, and one out later, Bates doubled to right-center to plate a pair to make it 5-2. Senior Dani Yudin followed with a single up the middle to bring in Bates to make it 6-2.

The Matadors cut their deficit to 6-3 with a run in the third. Sale led off with an infield single to short and moved to third on a sacrifice attempt off the bat of Samantha Sloniker that was thrown high to first by LaRosa. Carlsen then blooped a ball in to left field to score Sale, but it would end up being scored as a fielder's choice, as Harrison was able to force Sloniker at second. A Thielges singled put a pair on base, but the Matadors would strand them.

UCLA added a pair of runs in the third. With two outs, Snow and Schroeder hit back-to-back homers to make it 8-3. It was Snow's second of the season and Schroeder's fourth.

The Bruins scored two more times in the fifth. With one out, UCLA loaded the bases on a Snow walk, a hit by pitch of Schroeder and a single to left by LaRosa. Harrison tapped one back to the circle, which forced Snow at the plate for the second out, but Bates followed with a double to center to bring in Schroeder and LaRosa to make it 10-3. However, Northridge avoided the mercy rule, as Harrison was thrown out at the plate for the final out of the inning.

The Bruins continue their four-game homestand this weekend against Pac-12 newcomer Utah. Game times are Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 6 p.m. and Sunday at 12 p.m. Gametracker and free audio will be available at UCLABruins.com, as well as live updates at twitter.com/uclasoftball.
