The No. 12 men's and No. 24 women's track and field teams took to the track at the Mike A. Myers Stadium in Day One of the 86th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, opening the four day competition with heats from both the men's decathlon and women's heptathlon.

Through the first four events, junior Tatum Souza currently sits in ninth place (3,216 points) in the women's heptathlon. Souza had a solid performance in the 100m hurdles (14.12), high jump (5-1.75), and 200m dash (25.41), but her best result was a third place finish in the shot put (41-5.75). The mark is a personal best for Souza, a great sign early in the outdoor season for Coach Jeanette Bolden and her women's squad.

In the decathlon, Marcus Nilsson and Dominic Giovannoni find themselves fourth (3,913 points) and seventh (3,838 points), respectively, after the first five events. As with Souza, the shot put proved to be the strength in the first half of decathlon for both athletes. Nilsson took first in the shot put (50-0.75) and Giovannoni finished right behind his teammate in second (45-11.75). They are both chasing the leader, Duke's Curtis Beach (4,219 points), and will need a strong second half tomorrow to have a chance at the decathlon title.

The combined events will pick up tomorrow at 8:00 am PST, beginning with the decathlon's 110m hurdles. Thursday will also feature short distance prelims as well as several field and distance event finals. For live results from Austin, click here.
