SANTA MONICA, Calif. - The #2 doubles team of sophomore Zoë Nightingale and freshman Becca Strehlow and the #5 duo of freshmen Rachel Inouye and Maddy Klineman each posted victories, but the seventh-ranked Bruins lost a 3-2 decision to #9 Nebraska on Thursday at the Annenberg Beach House.

Two of the three losses for UCLA (1-3) were in three sets. In addition to the pair of victories, junior Mariana Aquino and freshman Phelix Fincher recorded a three-set win (21-19, 11-21, 15-11) over Alicia Ostrander and Cecilia Hall in a non-scoring contest.

The first match of the day to finish was the Inouye/Klineman affair, as the freshmen duo took care of Sheridan Zarda and Meghan Haggerty by identical 21-19 scores.

In the #4 doubles, sophomore Karsta Lowe and freshman Karly Drolson dropped the opener to Ostrander and Kelsey Fien, 21-19, but came back to win the second, 23-21, to force a third. However, the Huskers (4-3) team took the third, 15-13, to even the overall match at one apiece.

At #3 doubles, senior Bojana Todorovic and sophomore Megan Moenoa also forced a third set. After falling in the first, 21-13, the Bruins won the second, 21-19, but lost in the third, 15-7.

The Bruins would need to win the final two matches to win the overall and got off to a good start at #2, as Nightingale and Strehlow won the first set, 21-17, over Hayley Thramer and Amber Rolfzen, and would also go on to finish off the sweep with a 21-19 win in the second.

In the #1 singles, juniors Meg Norton and Kelly Reeves took on Kelsey Robinson and Alexa Strange. But the Bruin duo fell to the Husker pair, 21-15, 21-16, as Nebraska won the match.

The Bruins are off from competition until Wednesday, April 3 when they host Loyola Marymount at 2 p.m. at Annenberg.
