On Friday, February 3, 2012, members of the UCLA football team visited 186th Elementary School to participate in the Seventh Annual Super Bowl School Spirit Day. The Bruins took part in the school's Super Bowl School Spirit Day to celebrate the student's commitment to academic excellence.
Greg Capella, Keenan Graham, Alek Cusick, Brandon Sermons, and Casey Griffiths represented the Bruins and began their visit by taking a walk back down memory lane in Kindergarten through 5th grade elementary classrooms to meet the students.
"I was so proud to see my students' eyes twinkle with excitement as they were greeted by the student-athletes, and it was great to hear the student-athletes share memories of their elementary school days." said Principal Marcia Reed.
At the close of the school day, the Bruins made a receiving line in front of the school buses to give high fives and take pictures with students who could not stay after school for the festivities. The Bruins were joined by a few members of the USC football team as they kicked off the after school assembly that encouraged the importance of citizenship, scholarship, and sportsmanship. The Bruins and the Trojans formed an academic huddle to encourage the students to strive for excellence, respect their teachers, do their homework, and work hard to achieve their goals and dreams.
The players formed a receiving line for all of the children in attendance to go down the line and receive high fives. The Bruins finished their visit by signing autographs, taking pictures and encouraging students to continue to do their best.
