Matt Elliott
Position: Associate Athletic Director - Compliance
Alma Mater: Amherst '99
Matt Elliott was named Associate Athletic Director for Compliance in September 2012. He joined the UCLA staff in October 2011.

Elliott oversees all aspects of compliance for the athletic department, including adherence to NCAA Bylaws, student-athlete and staff education, reinstatement, investigations and monitoring eligibility. He also tracks developments in NCAA and California state legislation and advises internal and external stakeholders on legal-related issues. Elliott created UCLA's Agent and Amateurism Program for student-athletes pursuing careers in professional athletics. He also serves on Dan Guerrero's senior staff.

Prior to coming to UCLA, Elliott practiced law as an Associate at Ropes & Gray LLP in Boston, Mass. In his practice, he represented clients in a variety of complex litigation matters and served as the senior litigation associate in the firm's Sports Law group. In that capacity, he worked as outside counsel for the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and represented numerous institutions, coaches, and student-athletes in NCAA investigations and eligibility proceedings. Elliott worked with clients from many conferences, including the Pac-12, Big 12, and the Big East.

In 2006, before joining Ropes & Gray, he worked as a law clerk for the Honorable Judge Alan C. Kay in the federal district court of Hawaii. Earlier in his career, Elliott served with Teach For America as an elementary school teacher in the South Bronx, NY and worked for the Urban Alliance Foundation in Washington, DC, providing mentoring and education programming to high school students at Anacostia High School.

Elliott earned his undergraduate degree in Law, Jurisprudence and Social Thought from Amherst College in 1999 and was a member of the Crew team. He also graduated from Northwestern University School of Law in 2005.

Originally from Boston, Mass., Elliott lives in the West LA neighborhood with his wife, Allison.
