LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Bruins scored single runs in each of the first three innings, but a six-run third for UAB propelled the Blazers to a 6-3 victory on Friday in the NCAA Regional opener at Ulmer Stadium. Seven different players had hits for UCLA, as junior Jessica Hall posted a pair.

The Bruins (37-19) will play IPFW in an elimination game on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. ET/1:30 p.m. PT. UCLA will need to win twice on Saturday and twice on Sunday to advance out of the Louisville Regional. UAB (38-16) will face Louisville on Saturday at 5 p.m. ET/2 p.m. PT.

Hall (9-7) started in the circle and struck out three in two-plus innings, giving up three runs (two earned), four hits and two walks. Sophomore Ally Carda tossed five innings of relief, striking out four and allowing three runs, four hits and one walk in five innings.

The Bruins scored in their first at-bat, as senior B.B. Bates launched her 25th homer of the season to center, more than 230 feet away, to make it 1-0. Hitting the quarter of a century mark in the long ball department gives the senior the second-most homers in one season in UCLA history.

In the second, UCLA added another run on a two-out rally. Freshman Britney Rodriguez led off with a bloop single to left-center and moved to second on a sacrifice by Hall. One out later, sophomore Gracie Goulder slapped a single down the left-field line to score Rodriguez to put the Bruins up 2-0.

UAB batted around in the third and scored six runs. Three straight singles to open the inning by Caitlin Attfield, Heather Pearson and Whitney Fletcher gave the Blazers their first run. With runners at the corners, Kate Armstrong tapped a ball to third, but freshman Brittany Moeai dropped the throw at the plate, allowing Pearson to score to tie the game at two. This time with runners at third and second, Kristen McGrath singled up the middle to plate Fletcher and Armstrong to give UAB a 4-2 lead. Anna Kimbrell followed with a double to left-center, but a perfect relay from senior Devon Lindvall to sophomore Stephany LaRosa to Moeai at the plate retired Kelly Britt, who was running for McGrath. Chandler Orr then hit a two-run homer down the left-field line to increase UAB's advantage to 6-2.

The Bruins scratched another run across in their half of the third. With one out, LaRosa singled to right. Sataraka then grounded a ball to short, but second baseman Pearson was off the bag upon catching the throw, as LaRosa advanced safely. After Rodriguez was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Hall singled through the left side to bring home LaRosa to make it 6-3. However, UCLA would strand the bases loaded, as UAB's Lannah Campbell retired Lindvall on a line out to second and Goulder on a strikeout to end the inning.

The pitching would settle down for the second half of the game, as the teams matched zeroes for the last four frames. Carda retired the last 10 batters of the game, including two strikeouts in the sixth, allowing only one hit after the Orr homer in the third. Campbell also settled down, giving up just two hits in the last four innings.
