WOODLAND, Calif. -- UCLA redshirt freshman goalkeeper Garrett Danner has captured MPSF/KAP7 Player of the Week acclaim for the week of Sept. 16-22, the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) announced Monday. This is the first player of the week award for Danner and the first by a Bruin this season.

Danner helped UCLA remain undefeated at 11-0 and win the NorCal Invitational at Berkeley, Calif., over the weekend, shutting down four ranked teams en route to the title. The Bruins' defense was stellar over the weekend, as it has been in the early going of the 2013 season. No team has scored more than eight goals against UCLA on the year. UCLA only gave up 21 goals in the four games of the NorCal Invitational, which was four fewer than its next closest competitor, USC.

The Bruins opened with a 17-4 win over No. 16 Concordia as Danner had seven saves in three quarters while surrendering three goals. The Bruins then handed No. 6 UC Santa Barbara its first loss of the season, 10-4, with Danner playing the entire game in goal and picking up nine saves. UCLA then handed No. 4 California its first loss of the season, 6-5, as Danner racked up 12 stops in four quarters. He also played the entire game in the 9-8 win over No. 1 USC, registering 12 saves while handing the Trojans their first loss in 41 games (dating back to the 2011 season).

Danner averaged 10.67 saves per game and posted a goals against average of 5.33 at the NorCal Invitational. He led UCLA with seven steals in the four games and added four assists.

The Bruins return to action this weekend when they host the 10th-ranked Pepperdine Waves on Friday, Sept. 27 at Spieker Aquatics Center. The game will be televised live on the Pac-12 Networks and is slated for a 4:00 p.m. start. UCLA will travel to No. 8 Loyola Marymount on Sept. 28 for a 1:00 p.m. game and then return home to host No. 13 Princeton that same night at 8:00 p.m.
