SZOMBATHELY, Hungary -- The USA Men's Junior National Team fell to Italy 10-6 in the quarterfinals of the FINA Men's Junior World Championships on Aug. 16. The loss takes the Americans out of contention for a medal and they will now compete in the 5th-8th place bracket.
Alex Bowen scored three goals and Garrett Danner added 11 saves to lead the United States. UCLA incoming freshman Ryder Roberts was the lone Bruin to score, adding two goals in the fourth period.

Bowen struck first, giving the United States a 1-0 lead, on a power play at the 7:19 mark of the first period. But Italy responded with four straight goals to take a 4-1 lead with 4:22 left in the opening period. Bowen scored again on another extra man opportunity to stop the Italian run, but Italy scored a late goal to build a 5-2 lead heading into the second.
Italy scored the first two goals of the second quarter and built a 7-2 lead with 4:15 remaining. Team USA battled back, closing out the half with goals from Bowen and Bret Bonanni, to cut the deficit to 7-4 at halftime.
But Italy dominated the third period, blanking Team USA, 3-0 in the third, heading into the fourth period with its largest lead of 10-4.
Roberts tried to kickstart a rally in the fourth with a goal at the 6:24 mark to trim the deficit to 10-5. Unfortunately for the United States they would not find the net again until 32 seconds left in the game when Roberts connected for his second goal. While the Americans posted a shutout in the fourth quarter, Italy won the game, 10-6.
Team USA was 3 -for-4 on power plays while Italy was 3-for-5. Neither team attempted a penalty shot.
