The UCLA women's soccer team, under new head coach Amanda Cromwell, will open the 2013 season on August 23 with a home game against Northeastern.
UCLA's non-conference schedule is highlighted by a date with defending NCAA Champion North Carolina on Sept. 6. The Bruins will face seven NCAA Tournament teams in their first eight games, including Marquette and Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind. Aug. 30 and Sept. 1, North Carolina and Duke in Durham, N.C. Sept. 6 and 8, and San Diego State at home Sept. 13.
As usual, UCLA will face all 11 Pac-12 opponents, including crosstown rival USC at home on Nov. 8 and defending conference champion Stanford on the road Oct. 11.
"The 2013 schedule has to be one of the strongest in the country," said Cromwell. "Our first two road trips against such quality opponents, including the defending national champion, will show us our depth and resiliency early. I'm excited to play a strong Pac-12 schedule that will prepare us for the postseason, and I'm also excited for our fans to be able to see compelling home games, such as those against San Diego State and USC."
The Bruins return nine starters from last season's NCAA Quarterfinal squad, including All-American defender Abby Dahlkemper and fellow U.S. Under-23 Women's National Team members Sarah Killion, Jenna Richmond. UCLA also returns 2012 Olympians Chelsea Stewart and Rosie White.
