UCLA Downs Notre Dame 1-0 to win adidas Invitational

The fourth-ranked UCLA women's soccer team notched another impressive victory, defeating seventh-ranked Notre Dame in South Bend, 1-0. The Bruins outshot the Fighting Irish, 20-1, and freshman Darian Jenkins continued her stellar start to her collegiate career, scoring the game-winning goal in the 80th minute.

UCLA pushed the attack all game, and the Bruin defense held tight, holding Notre Dame to just one shot that went high and wide by Mandy Laddish in the 28th minute.

The Irish (3-1) had what looked to be the go-ahead goal in the 74th minute, but Crystal Thomas' goal was called back due to an offside call. A little more than five minutes later, Jenkins put UCLA ahead, knocking in a rebound shot in front of the goal. Ally Courtnall started the play with a shot that hit the crossbar. A Notre Dame defender mishit the clearance, and it went to Jenkins, who slid it past Notre Dame goalkeeper Kaela Little for the game-winner.

Jenkins' goal was her fourth in as many games. She has scored a goal in every game this year and leads UCLA in scoring with eight points.

Bruin goalkeeper Katelyn Rowland earned the shutout, her second solo shutout of the season. Rowland earned the tournament's Golden Glove Award as the Most Valuable Goalkeeper. Jenkins was the Offensive MVP, and junior defender Abby Dahlkemper was the Defensive MVP. Those three, along with Sarah Killion and Sam Mewis, were named to the all-tournament team.

UCLA (4-0) next plays at No. 1 North Carolina on Friday, Sept. 6 in Durham. Also on the docket next weekend is a game at Duke on Sept. 8.
