UCLA Women's Soccer Defeats No. 12 Duke, 2-1
By: UCLA Athletics
The No. 2/3 UCLA women's soccer team concluded play at the Duke Nike Classic with a 2-1 victory over 12th-ranked Duke on Sunday. The Bruins (5-1) received goals by Rosie White in the eighth minute and Darian Jenkins in the 78th minute to record their third victory over a Top 20 opponent this season.

As it has been doing all season, UCLA scored in the opening 10 minutes of the contest. Taylor Smith got free on a breakaway down the right sideline and crossed to White, who finished into the lower left corner at the 7:08 mark. The goal was White's second of the year. Jenkins made it 2-0 at 77:48, taking advantage of an empty net after Duke goalkeeper Ali Kershner came out of the box. Abby Dahlkemper had the assist on Jenkins' team-leading fifth goal of the year.

Bruin goalkeeper Katelyn Rowland, who had a career-high seven saves against North Carolina on Friday, was impressive in goal once again, making four saves, including a big save in the sixth minute on a hard shot by Kim DeCesare and a diving save in the 28th minute on a good look from Toni Payne.

Duke's only goal came with four seconds left to play in the contest. Mollie Pathman successfully converted a penalty kick after Katie Trees was fouled in the box, but the late goal could do nothing but ruin the shutout for the Bruins.

Rowland, White and Megan Oyster earned All-Tournament honors.

The Bruins finished their two-week-long road trip with a 3-1 record, including three wins over Top 20 opponents. Their only loss came by one goal to defending NCAA champion and top-ranked North Carolina. UCLA returns to Drake Stadium on Friday, Sept. 13 against San Diego State. The game, which is the first in a doubleheader with the UCLA men (vs. UC Santa Barbara), will be televised live on Pac-12 Networks at 4:30 pm.
