No. 3 UCLA Hands Washington State First Loss of Season, 2-0
By: UCLA Athletics
Los Angeles, Calif. - Third-ranked UCLA scored two second-half goals to hand Washington State its first loss of the season, 2-0 on Friday afternoon. Redshirt sophomore Courtney Proctor netted her first collegiate goal in the 59th minute, and Darian Jenkins added her eighth in the 64th as UCLA improved to 10-1-0, 2-0-0 in Pac-12 play. The Cougars fall to 7-1-3 and 0-1-1 in conference.

After a fairly even first half that saw Washington State take four shots to UCLA's three, the Bruins took control in the second half, outshooting the Cougars by a 9-2 margin. UCLA came out fast in the second half, with Caprice Dydasco and Taylor Smith forcing saves by Washington State goalkeeper Gurveen Clair in the first five minutes.

In the 59th minute, Proctor had a shot on goal that was tipped out-of-bounds by Gurveen, resulting in a corner kick by Gabbi Miranda. Miranda's corner kick bounced past Gurveen in the box and found Proctor, who controlled the ball and then slotted it far post past the Cougar defense guarding the line.

UCLA struck again just five minutes later when Sarah Killion sent a through ball to a speeding Caprice Dydasco down the left side. Dydasco hit Jenkins with a cross into the box, and Jenkins surged forward to calmly one-time it past Clair for her team-leading eighth goal of the year.

"They played us really well defensively in the first half," said UCLA head coach Amanda Cromwell. "They were smart about what they were doing, and we couldn't quite figure it out, but we made some adjustments at halftime and came out and played a much better second half."

UCLA returns to action on Monday vs. Washington at 7pm in a game that will be televised live on Pac-12 Networks.
