Women's Soccer Head Coach Amanda Cromwell Agrees to Contract Extension
By: UCLA Athletics
Los Angeles, Calif. - UCLA Women’s Soccer Head Coach Amanda Cromwell has agreed to a multi-year contract extension, it was announced today by UCLA Athletic Director Dan Guerrero.

This past season, Cromwell led UCLA to its first-ever national championship in women’s soccer. Capping a remarkable season at the College Cup in North Carolina, the Bruins defeated three number one seeds and two of the last three national champions en route to UCLA’s record 110th NCAA Championship. UCLA finished the year with a record of 22-1-3, winning the Pac-12 and going unbeaten in their last 21 games. Cromwell, in just her first season in Westwood, became the first UCLA coach ever to be honored as Soccer America's Women's Coach of the Year.

"We are obviously very pleased to see what Amanda has been able to accomplish here at UCLA in such a short amount of time," said Guerrero. "Seeing firsthand the resolve her team displayed in spite of the uncharacteristically rainy and freezing weather during that championship game in North Carolina is a testament to a group of focused players, as well as her leadership. We are very pleased to ensure that same leadership will be on full display here in Westwood for years to come."

Under Cromwell’s guidance, UCLA tied the women’s soccer school record for wins in a season and led the nation with a team goals against average of 0.296. The Bruins allowed a mere eight goals over the course of the entire season, just one in NCAA Tournament play, and trailed for only 47 of the 2,311 minutes they played in 2013. Goalkeeper Katelyn Rowland set a school record with 15 shutouts.

Junior defender Abby Dahlkemper won the Honda Award for soccer, becoming the first UCLA student-athlete to be honored as the nation’s top collegiate female athlete in soccer. Dahlkemper was also one of three finalists for the MAC Hermann Trophy, collegiate soccer’s version of the Heisman Trophy, and the winner of the NSCAA Scholar All-American of the Year. Both Dahlkemper and Rowland earned NSCAA All-America honors, along with Pac-12 Freshman of the Year Darian Jenkins.

"This was such an exciting and special year for UCLA women's soccer," said Cromwell, who now owns a 246-99-30 career record in 17 years as a head coach. "To cap it off by winning NCAA championship #110 for UCLA and the first for women’s soccer is one of the best feelings in the world. Throughout the season, our fans, alums and administration were there for us every step of the way. I can't thank Dan Guerrero and (Senior Associate Athletic Director) Ken Weiner enough for their constant support and willingness to further commit to our program and entire coaching staff. UCLA is a great place to be, and I'm excited to continue to build on this winning tradition!"
