Swanson Named to Soccer America's All-Freshman Team

Jan. 30, 2001

LOS ANGELES -- Two months after helping UCLA reach the NCAA finals at the College Cup, freshman forward Sarah-Gayle Swanson was one of 11 newcomers named to Soccer America's All-Freshman Team on Tuesday.

In her first season at the collegiate level, Swanson, from Denver, Colo., ranked second on the team in scoring with 32 points on 14 goals and four assists. Her totals for points and goals were both single-season freshmen records. In addition, she added four game-winning goals on the season, playing in 23 of UCLA's 24 games, notching 14 starts. She finished second on the team in scoring behind Bruin junior Stephanie Rigamat who finished with 37 points (13g, 11a).

Swanson, who has seen extensive time on both the Under-18 and Under-21 U.S. National Teams, was one of the top recruits in the country a year ago and was one of the headliners on UCLA's No. 1 recruiting class.

Prior to arriving at UCLA last fall, Swanson earned Parade All-America honors at Denver's J.K. Mullen Christian Brothers High School.
