The second-ranked UCLA women’s water polo team won its 16th game of the season, defeating local rival Loyola Marymount, 14-6, on Saturday at LMU’s Burns Center.

The victory raised the Bruins’ record to 16-2 overall. The ninth-ranked Lions fell to 8-5.

Sophomore All-American Rachel Fattal and senior Victoria Kent each scored three goals as the Bruins built a 4-0 lead in the first nine minutes and were never threatened. Kodi Hill, India Forster and Emily Donohoe each scored a pair of goals. Goalkeeper Sami Hill made eight saves in three quarters of play, and Alex Musselman added one in the fourth quarter.

Fattal scored the first three goals of the game for UCLA and the Bruins led 3-0 after the first quarter. After LMU’s Ivanna Castro scored the first of her three goals at 5:01 of the second quarter, the Bruins scored twice on goals from Kodi Hill (3:35) and Forster (0:26) to open a 6-1 lead. After a UCLA exclusion with 14 seconds remaining in the half, LMU’s Alexandra Honny scored at the buzzer to narrow the lead to 6-2.

After an LMU exclusion within the first 30 seconds of the third period, UCLA’s Alys Williams scored at 6:53. Donohoe scored next, followed by a goal from Kent and the lead had increased to 9-2. Following an LMU goal by Bridgette Alvarez, UCLA’s Mackenzie Barr scored an extraman goal at 1:34. Sami Hill blocked a penalty at 1:19 and the Bruins ended the period ahead 10-3.

Donohoe (7:17), Kodi Hill (5:34), Kent (4:39), Forster (3:42) all scored in the fourth quarter, and Coach Brandon Brooks emptied his bench. The Bruins had won their 21st game against the Lions in the all-time series.
