Four UCLA Women's Water Polo Players Earn ACWPC All-Academic Honors

BREA, Calif. - Juniors Victoria Kent and Becca Dorst, sophomore Emily Donohoe and freshman Maddy McLaren of the UCLA women's water polo team have earned ACWPC All-Academic honors, as announced today by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC).

McLaren finished the 2013 campaign ninth on the team in scoring with 14 goals. A defender from Newport Beach, Calif., McLaren posted the highest cumulative GPA of any current women's water polo player at 3.461, earning "superior" accolades.

Dorst, a junior utility from Menlo Park, Calif., had a 3.214 GPA to earn "excellent" honors this season. She missed a lot of the year with an injury, but played in enough games (19) to qualify. She scored 16 goals and had 14 steals while drawing 22 exclusions to rank third on the team. She also earned 2013 MPSF All-Academic honors.

Donohoe, a sophomore attacker from Upland, Calif., had a 3.322 GPA to earn "excellent" honors this year. She was named Second Team All-MPSF while leading UCLA in scoring with 70 goals (2.0 gpg), which ranked eighth in the MPSF. She also was second on the team in field blocks (14) and third in steals (26). She also earned 2013 MPSF All-Academic acclaim.

Kent, a junior attacker from Corona del Mar, Calif., had a 3.352 GPA to earn "excellent" honors this year. She recorded 12 goals, nine assists and eight steals on the year and was also named to the 2013 MPSF All-Academic Team.

Student-athletes eligible for the ACWPC All-Academic award must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher and have competed in at least 50 percent of games in the current season. Athlete merit levels include "excellent" (3.2 to 3.4), "superior" 3.41 to 3.7 and "outstanding" 3.71 to 4.0.

UCLA finished the 2013 season with a 28-7 overall record and third-place finish at the NCAA Championship. The Bruins finished fourth in the MPSF with a league mark of 3-3.
