The Bruins (20-2, 2-0) are riding a five-game winning streak following tough road victories at California and Hawai’i last week. The Roadrunners (12-17, 0-3) have lost two straight, including a 19-10 decision to Cal on Mar. 23.
The Bruins lead the series with the Roadrunners, 3-0, and beat them 14-7 last season. In that contest, Kodi Hill and Rachel Fattal each scored a pair of goals to lift the Bruins to their 19th victory.
CS Bakersfield boasts a trio of players with 40 or more goals this season in junior Janelle Shelby (47 goals), freshman Kristen Jensen (45 goals) and sophomore Nikki De Leon (40 goals). Freshman goalkeeper Courtney Wahlstrom ranks first in the MPSF with 259 saves, but seventh in the conference in goals allowed average at 10.92.
Three players on the UCLA roster are ranked among the league’s Top 25 scorers: junior Emily Donohoe (46 goals/2.09 gpg), sophomore Rachel Fattal (32 goals/1.45 gpg) and senior Becca Dorst (29 goals/1.32 gpg). Donohoe, in particular, has been on a scoring binge, netting 13 goals in her last four games.
In goal, the Bruins feature All-America Sami Hill, who ranks second in the conference with a goals against average of 4.9 and third with 92 goals allowed. Hill made several key fourth quarter saves against Cal and Hawai’i to preserve the UCLA victories.
The Bruins and Stanford are tied atop the Collegiate Women's Water Polo rankings this week. Stanford defeated previously unbeaten USC over the weekend, and the Bruins beat the Cardinal on the road in Feburary.
