LOS ANGELES, Calif. - No. 4 UCLA women's water polo rallied to defeat the Cal Baptist Lancers, 12-7, on Saturday afternoon at Spieker Aquatics Center. Freshman Rachel Fattal scored a season-high six goals to lead the Bruins.

The non-conference victory improved UCLA's overall record to 23-4 while Cal Baptist dropped to 16-17.

The Lancers got on the board first when Molly Gritchen scored from set with 6:59 left in the first. But Fattal had an immediate answer to tie the game at 1-1 at the 6:40 mark. Cal Baptist would regain the lead with 5:26 to go in the first on a score from Hannah Evans. Evans would then complete a hat trick with back-to-back power play goals (4:10 and 2:57) to put the Lancers up 4-1. Senior Leslee Kaczmarek cut the lead to 4-2 with a goal (2:29) at full strength for the Bruins. But Morgan Barrows scored for CBU with just six seconds remaining to end the first period scoring with the Lancers leading 5-2.

The Bruins' defense then went to work, shutting out the Lancers in the second and third periods. Senior Gisselle Naranjo scored on a power play to cut the lead to 5-3 with 4:04 left in the second. Then Fattal completed her hat trick with a penalty shot score at 2:44 and then tied the game at 5-5 with an exclusion goal with 1:47 left in the first half. Freshman Alys Williams then gave the Bruins their first lead of the game at 6-5 with a goal at full strength with 54 seconds left. That score would hold up as the halftime score.

UCLA again dominated the third period, scoring three more goals to take a 9-5 lead into the fourth quarter. Freshman Alexa Tielmann netted her first goal of the game at the 7:34 mark to put UCLA up 7-5. Then Fattal scored her fourth of the game to make it 8-5 (5:53). The final goal of the third period came on a 6-on-5 opportunity for UCLA as Natasha Schulman ensured all three seniors scored in the game with a power play goal at the 5:18 mark of the quarter.

The Bruins opened the fourth with a power play goal from Fattal, her fifth of the game, to make it 10-5 with 6:39 left in the fourth period. Sophomore Shelby Couture scored her only goal of the game on a 6-on-5 opportunity to put UCLA in complete control, 11-5 (5:18). Then Samantha Banks notched her only goal of the game for Cal Baptist on a power play with 4:48 to go. Her goal snapped the Bruins' nine-goal scoring streak and ended a 19-minute scoring drought for the Lancers. Fattal would score her sixth of the game, exactly half of UCLA's scoring output, to put the Bruins up 12-6 on a power play with 2:35 to go. Evans scored her fourth of the game (1:18) for CBU to provide the final score of 12-7.

Redshirt sophomore Alex Musselman was in the cage in the second half for the Bruins and made five stops. Leticia Perez started in goal and played the entire contest for CBU, making eight saves.
