Big Day for Bruins in West Regional

It was a big day for the Bruins on Friday in Seattle at the 2012 NCAA West Regional meet.

The 27th-ranked men took third as a team in the 10,000m race, as sophomore Lane Werley had an outstanding fifth place finish with a time of 29:46. They ran quite well as a team at the Jefferson Golf Course Friday, with Nohe Lema, Dustin Fay and David McDonald finishing 21st, 22nd and 23rd, consecutively. The team finished with 128 points, 21 behind second-place Portland. Stanford claimed the team title.

The 29th-ranked women also ran quite well Friday, finishing seventh in the team competition with 217 points. Senior captain Katja Goldring had a great day for the Bruins as she took 28th overall by crossing the finish line of the 6,000m race in 20:20. All scoring Bruins for the women finished in the top 60 runners, including identical times of 20:50 by Kelsey Smith and Annie Mooney. The Pac-12 champion Oregon Ducks finished first in the team competition.

Although neither squad was able to secure automatic qualifying spots in next week's NCAA Championships in Louisville, KY, both are looking to claim an at-large bid. will announce the official field complete with at-large qualifiers by 9:00 AM PT.
