LOS ANGELES - The sixth-ranked Bruins won their second straight match with a 4-1 victory over Santa Clara at Stanford's Arguello Park on Saturday morning. UCLA improved to 5-2 on the year while Santa Clara fell to 2-2.
Taylor Formico and Karsta Lowe rallied from a 21-18 first-set defeat to win the match (21-14, 15-7) in three sets over GiGi Cresto and Taylor Dayton. Lowe and Formico are now 2-2 overall (2-1 at No. 3 doubles and 0-1 at No. 4 doubles).
At #4 doubles, Skylar Dykstra and Jennie Frager survived an epic first-set loss (30-32) to comeback and defeat the SC team of Madison Dutra and Sarah Vaccaro (21-18, 15-13) for the win in three sets. The Bruin pair improved to 3-4 overall and 3-3 at No. 4 doubles.
At #5 doubles, Karly Drolson and Rachel Inouye posted an easy win over the Broncos' tandem of Lacey Maas and Katy Schatzman to win in straight sets, 21-10, 21-12. The duo improve to 5-2 on the year and 2-1 at #5 doubles.
The Bruins now face Stanford at Noon and then Hawai'i again at 3:00 p.m., weather permitting. With inclement weather in the Bay Area, UCLA's last two matches today were flipped since UCLA just played Hawai'i on Thursday.
Sunday’s competition (March 30) will be a pairs tournament played on all four courts starting at 8 a.m. PT. Admission and parking is free. Competition will happen rain or shine. Fans are encouraged to bring their own chairs or blankets for seating.
