Spencer Rowe Named Academic All-America
By: UCLA Athletics

June 6, 2013

Junior Spencer Rowe was named Thursday to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America Division I Men's At-Large Team. He was a third-team selection and the only student-athlete in the nation from the sport of men's volleyball to be represented on any of the three All-America teams announced.

A Political Science major with a 3.81 grade point average, Rowe led the team with 112 total blocks. He also ranked among the nation's best in hitting percentage (.459) this season for the fourth-ranked Bruins. The middle blocker set new career bests almost across the board in 2013 -- kills (16),digs (4), total blocks (7), aces (2) and total points (20).

Rowe was picked to the second-team AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) All-America squad earlier this off-season. In addition, the Trabuco Canyon, Calif. native was chosen to the 2013 MPSF (Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) Men's Volleyball Scholar-Athlete team and to the UCLA All-Scholar Team. He is an eight-time member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll at UCLA, earning a 4.0 gpa in three of those quarters.

The Capital One At-Large Academic All-America Division I Men's Team recognizes the nation's best student-athletes who maintain at least a 3.3 cumulative gpa and compete at a high level in the sports of fencing, gymnastics, golf, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling.
