Five Bruins Earn Volleyball All-Conference Honors
By: UCLA Athletics

First-team honoree Gonzalo Quiroga, a senior outside hitter, was one of five Bruins selected to the 2014 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation All-MPSF teams announced on Thursday. Senior hitter Robart Page and senior opposite Spencer Rowe were named to the All-MPSF second-team. Middle blocker Mitch Stahl and libero Jackson Bantle were chosen to the All-MPSF Freshman team.

UCLA has served an MPSF-high of 151 aces this season, led by Quiroga's MPSF leading 56.The team tied the school record with 14 aces v. BYU (4/12) with Quiroga and Stahl each registering six aces. Quiroga, who holds the school career record for aces, tops the MPSF with his 0.53 service aces/set average, a mark which is flirting with Mark Williams' (2001) school record of 0.51 for a season. He has double-digit kills in 26 of the 28 matches this season and totaled at least three service aces in nine matches this season. The native of Argentina ranked eighth in the league in kills (3.71) and fourth in points per set (4.54).

Page recorded double-digit kills in 22 matches and has gone over the 20-kill mark a team-high four times this season. The New York product ended the regular season ranked seventh in the MPSF in kills per set (3.79), a mark which would rank among the top 10 in school history in the rally scoring era (2001-present). He was listed sixth in points per set (4.35).

Rowe, who shifted to opposite during the season, tallied a then career-best 19 kills at BYU (Mar. 29) and then topped that performance with a 24-kill effort while hitting .525 at CSUN on Apr. 3. He hovered near the .400 hitting percentage mark all season long and enters the playoffs ranked 12th in the MPSF with a .397 percentage.

Stahl, from Chambersburg, PA, hit at least .500 in seven matches this season. He recorded season bests of 12 kills in a match versus Stanford. Ranked sixth in the MPSF with 0.33 aces per sets, Stahl registered mulitple aces in three matches this season and ranked second on the squad with 21 aces on the year.

Bantle, who played both outside and at libero this season, had at least five digs in 13 contests during the year, including a season-best 15 in a big win at Long Beach State. He blasted at least seven kills in six matches, with a high 12 against USC, and added a total of 14 aces for the season.

Quiroga was also named one of four finalists for the National Server of the Year Award. This is the second year for the Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. National Server of the Year award. The voting committee for this award is comprised of more than 20 college men’s volleyball head coaches and volleyball reporters from around the nation. The overall winner of the Off the Block/Springbak, Inc. National Server of the Year will be announced Wednesday, April 23.
