UCLA volleyball enjoyed its stamp on the Manhattan Open last weekend, boasting a team championship by former All-Americans Stein Metzger and Kevin Wong and the retirement of beach legend Sinjin Smith.

Smith, whose 139 professional victories ranks second all-time, was honored in a ceremony prior to the women's final.

"It feels weird to me walking off the beach knowing that it is over," said Smith, who was eliminated in a late match on Saturday. Among his 139 career victories were four Manhattan Open titles.

Wong and Metzger defeated Eric Fonoimoana and Rob Heidger, 21-17, 18-21, 15-10 to claim their first Manhattan Open title.

Former UCLA All-American Elaine Youngs and partner Barbra Fontana won the women's championship with a 21-17, 21-19 victory over Lisa Arce and Holly McPeak, another former UCLA standout.

Highlights of the Manhattan Open championship matches and Smith's retirement ceremony can be seen on Fox Sports Net Saturday, Sept. 1. Check local listings for times in your area.
