Matthew Acosta and Paul George have signed National Letters of Intent to attend UCLA next fall and play men's volleyball, the athletic department announced Wednesday.
Acosta, whose brother Jonathan lettered in 2002 as an outside hitter for the Bruins, is from San Juan, Puerto Rico, where he has been a member of the U.S. Junior National Team program for six years. Last year he earned All-Tournament Team honors at the USA Junior National Championships after leading his team to the bronze medal. This year, he was voted his team's MVP after leading Colegio San Ignacio to a runner-up finish in the Puerto Rico High School Athletic Alliance.
George, a 6-5 left-handed setter/outside hitter from Chatsworth High, was the 2002 L.A. City Player of the Year after leading Chatsworth to the city title last week. He also earned MVP honors in the championship match.
In November, UCLA signed Patrick Nihipali of Mira Costa Manhattan Beach and Matt McKinney of Santa Ynez High School. Both players' teams are still alive in the CIF Southern Section playoffs. McKinney also will play basketball for the Bruins.
