Men's Spikers Win One of Three Matches on European Tour

The UCLA men's volleyball team, currently travelling through Europe on a 17-day tour, won one of its first three matches against a team from Linz, Austria.

In two other matches, the Bruins were defeated by the Viennese HotVolleys, which was led by former UCLA All-Americans Brandon Taliaferro and Adam Naeve.

In their only victory, senior Matt Komer led the Bruins with 16 kills, followed by freshman Jonathan Acosta with 12 and junior Scott Morrow with 11. The Bruins defeated the team from Linz, 21-25, 20-25, 25-19, 25-20, 15-12.

Taliaferro's team swept the Bruins in their first match, 25-18, 25-14, 25-19. Acosta led the Bruins with 10 kills, followed by Komer with five and Chris Pena with four.

The Bruins took a game from the HotVolleys in their third match, but still lost in a best-of-three format, 16-25, 25-21, 8-15. In this match Komer led the team with six kills, followed by five kills from junior Cameron Mount and four apiece from Acosta and Morrow.
