UCLA Defeats UC Irvine In Four Games, 3-1

The UCLA men's volleyball team ended its league season on a victoious note by defeating UC Irvine in four games on the road.

The Bruins (25-6, 17-5) won 30-26, 30-21, 33-35, 30-22 in one hour and 55 minutes before 612 fans at Crawford Hall.

The Anteaters ended their season at 12-17 overall and 6-16 in league play. UCLA's victory assures that it will finish no worse than third place in the MPSF standings.

Junior Cameron Mount sparked the Bruins with 21 kills (.333) and sophomore Chris Pena and senior Matt Komer each added 12 kills. Komer aced UCI four times.

In team statistics, the Bruins out-blocked the Anteaters, 12.5-8.0 and limited them to a hitting percentage of .231. UCLA served 10 aces to UCI's six.

Erick Helinihi and Jimmy Pelzel led UCI with 16 kills each.

UCLA will host a quarterfinal MPSF playoff match on Apr. 20 at 7 p.m. in Pauley Pavilion. Complete playoff pairings will be released on Sunday, Apr. 14.
