The UCLA men's volleyball team swept visiting Cal State Northridge to clinch a home date for the first round of the MPSF playoffs beginning Apr. 20.
The Bruins (24-6, 16-5) won 30-26, 30-13, 38-36 in 94 minutes before a raucous crowd of 723 in Pauley Pavilion. The victory also halted UCLA's three-match losing skid.
The Matadors fell to 13-14 overall and 8-13 in league play.
Senior Matt Komer led the Bruins with 14 kills (.407) and added six digs and two block assists. Sophomore Chris Pena added 10 kills (.444) three aces and two block assists. Freshman Paul Johnson led the Bruins with six block assists.
Ekhard Walter led the Matadors with 19 kills and Nils Nielson added 10.
After five match points in Game 3, the Bruins finally pulled out the victory when Walter committed a service error and Nielson's spike attempt touched the antenna.
The Bruins will finish the regular season Fri., Apr. 12 at UC Irvine.
