UCLA redshirt sophomore linebacker Akeem Ayers has been named Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Week.
In the win at Washington State, he made interceptions on WSU's first and third possessions, setting up Bruin touchdowns for an early 14-0 lead. He also tied his career-high with 2.0 sacks (14 yards) and made four tackles, tied for the team lead.
On the year, Ayers is tied for the team lead with two forced fumbles, is second with 4.0 sacks (T-12th in Pac-10), tied for second with three interceptions (T-fourth in Pac-10), fifth with 6.0 tackles for loss and fifth with 49 tackles.
