Fred Bohna, UCLA's 1979 NCAA Wrestling Champ, Passes Away

Fred Bohna, who won the 1979 NCAA wrestling championship in the heavyweight division as a UCLA senior, passed away on July 9 after battling illness since early this year.

Bohna starred at Clovis High School, winning the CIF State title as a senior in 1974. He earned a scholarship to UCLA and became one of UCLA's top wrestlers, culminating his Bruin career with his 1979 NCAA title and Pac-10 Wrestler of the Year honors.

Bohna continued to compete internationally following his Bruin career, representing the United States in the Pan American Games. He retired after the 1984 Olympic Games.

The UCLA family extends its sympathies to Bohna's mother Bonnie and other members of the family for their loss.
