Preseason Camp 2010: Day 1

It's upon us! Today officially marked the first day of the 2010 preseason and while Bruin Football's preseason truly began in the weeks following our victory at the Eaglebank Bowl last December and the ensuing months, we have once again taken Spaulding Field in our quest to win a Pac-10 Championship.

Today's practice was predominantly a learning and installation one, focusing on teaching new players our offensive and defensive philosophies and techniques. This also allows for valuable review time for all of our veterans. Overall, the tempo of practice was certainly a slower pace then is typical but that did not preclude players from making some big time plays. A couple highlights: playing linebacker during 7 on 7, Glenn Love took a great drop into coverage, baited the receiver and closed down on a route to snatch an interception, really a great play showing tremendous athleticism and skill. The offense struck back; however, as Randall Carroll hauled in several great receptions, including a few long balls. The young bucks were no exception to the playmaking scene, Dietrich Riley and Anthony Barr both had impressive days on defense and offense respectively and the coaching staff is excited to see how they and all the other newcomers will progress in the coming weeks.

Check back here after every practice for thoughts and a quick practice recap.
