Kareem Abdul-Jabbar received an honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters from the New York Institute of Technology on May 22, 2011. The three-time NCAA champion at UCLA founded the Skyhook Foundation in 2010, with a mission "to motivate today's youth to pursue higher education by using sports to promote social and racial justice."
