YOUTH TRACK & FIELD DAY CAMPS
The Youth Track & Field Day Camps are offered as an opportunity for children of every ability level to get involved in the sport. The camp is appropriate for all ability levels, including those who have never before participated in track and field. Campers will try their hand at multiple running and field events, culminating in their very own ‘Olympic’ competition. The focus is on finding each camper’s individual strengths, while having fun out at the track!

BOYS SPRINTS &HURLDES CAMP
Coach Lamonte Vaughn’s Boys Sprints & Hurdles Camp provides boys with the chance to improve their speed and technique on the track. The camp is appropriate for athletes who are sprinters, hurdlers, or both - or even those new to Track & Field who are interested in pursuing the sport. Campers will be grouped by age and ability level, with younger and/or less experienced athletes working on fundamentals while the more experienced athletes refine their technique. Evening activities for resident campers include watching films, hearing from guest speakers, and discussing the demands (both on and off the track) of being a college-athlete. There is also a two-day portion available for those athletes that can’t afford the full camp experience. For two days, you can personally learn from Coach Vaughn all of the techniques important to the successful sprinter & hurdler. This camp is great for 100m, 200m, 400m, 110H, 440H, etc.

    Camp Highlights include:
  • a more explosive start and a killer finish
  • the “burst” and the “drive”
  • the difference between “quick” and “fast”
  • getting stronger, faster, quicker and more dynamic,
  • drills you can do on your own to make yourself faster
  • hurdles approach and timing

THROWS CAMP
Men’s Head Coach Mike Maynard’s UCLA Throws Camp is designed to provide a rewarding and enjoyable experience for campers of all ability levels, utilizing all implements. Campers will learn the basics of all of the implements, with extensive discussion on each athlete’s primary focus in either the discus, shot put, javelin or hammer. Campers must bring throwing shoes, discs, shots, javelin, and hammers. There are implements available to purchase during online registration. Our staff will feature current and former UCLA athletes. Campers are divided into groups according to experience and ability. Lectures on strength and conditioning, as well as on college programs, will also be offered. Implements are available to purchase when you register.

POLE VAULT CAMPS
Coach Anthony Curran’s UCLA Pole Vault Camps are residential camps open to vaulters of all ability levels, including beginners - no experience necessary! Our staff will feature both current and former UCLA vaulters, led by pole vault/jumps coach Anthony Curran. Instruction includes vault drills such as high bar, rings, ropes and scaffold vaults. For most vaulting sessions, the camp will concentrate on the most basic technique from shorter runs and smaller poles. There will be lectures on strength and conditioning for all levels, as well as video analysis and discussion sessions. Poles are provided, but you are encouraged to bring your own, if possible.

DISTANCE CAMP
The Distance Camp is appropriate for runners that compete in the 800m distance and farther, all the way up to cross country distances. The middle distance portion of the camp will focus on the Igloi Training Method, emphasizing interval training at shorter distances, intending to build both speed and greater stamina in all campers. The camp will also cover the mental aspect of middle distance running, and how an athlete’s focus is just as vital as his physical condition. The longer distances will feature instruction for runners interested in learning more about general fitness, racing tactics for all of the long-distance events (800m to 5000m) including the Steeplechase and Cross Country, weight training, circuit training, water training and other forms of cross-training. Proper preparation prevents poor performances! Evening activates for resident campers include film sessions, guest speakers, and discussing what it takes to become a collegiate athlete. Camp will be run by Johnny Gray, Assistant Coach – Middle Distance, and Forest Braden, Assistant Coach – Long Distance.

GIRLS SPRINTS & HURDLES CAMP
Women’s Head Coach Jeanette Bolden’s UCLA Sprints & Hurdles Camp provides girls with the chance to improve their speed and technique on the track. This camp is great for 100m, 200m, 400m, 110H, 440H, etc.

ALL-STAR JUMP ACADEMIES
The UCLA All-Star Jump Academies will cover the High Jump, Long Jump and Triple Jump, led by Coach Anthony Curran. The camp will focus on all aspects of jumping for these three events, including the approach, the flight, and the landing. Our staff will also lead you through exercises in plyometrics, stretching, and running mechanics. It is open to boys and girls between the ages 12-18, and all ability levels are welcome. Whether new to track & field or looking to perfect your technique, this camp offers opportunity to learn from the very best. Willie Banks (UCLA ’78), who is a 3-time Olympian and one-time world record holder, will direct the Triple Jump portion of the camp. We will also have another Bruin great on hand to direct the High & Long Jump portions of the camp.
