UCLA's new Athletic Performance Sports Training Facility has doubled in size to 15,000 square feet.

UCLA's new Athletic Performance Sports Training Facility has double in size to 15,000 square feet and is directed by Head Athletic Performance Coach Mike Linn.

Mike Linn, an alumnus of UCLA, leads a staff of 6 assistant athletic performance coaches, who together train the athletes of all 22 varsity sports.

The development of an athlete's fitness requires a comprehensive plan that maximizes all physical components of competition. UCLA's facility and program reflect the total fitness philosophy of the Bruin athletic performance staff. The facility includes:

FREE WEIGHT EQUIPMENT

Twenty-seven weight lifting platforms are available where each athlete is taught Olympic and power weight training exercises. These multiple joint movements will develop in each athlete the performance-specific strength and power needed to be successful at the highest level.

SPEED/ POWER/ REACTIVITY/ FLEXIBILITY

This area is used to develop each athlete's explosive power, reactive capabilities, foot speed, coordination and flexibility. By implementing a progressive plyometric program, athletes can begin to maximize their competitive strength.

CARDIOVASCULAR EQUIPMENT

Athletes can enhance their level of conditioning with stationary bike and rowing machines. Conditioning will also be trained outdoors at Drake Stadium and Spaulding Field.

BOD POD

The Bod Pod accurately measures all of our athlete's body composition. By understanding body fat percentages, the UCLA Athletic Performance staff is better equipped to provide each athlete with the proper workouts to reduce body fat and increase lean muscle mass.

METABOLIC ASSESSMENT CART

Our metabolic assessment cart allows the athlete and athletic performance coach to understand at what heart rate the athlete is utilizing the most fat and how to properly improve the athlete's sport specific conditioning levels.

NO. 1 GOAL

Our No. 1 goal is for each athlete to stay healthy and improve performance by incorporating explosiveness and intensity in each workout. The importance of staying injury-free is paramount in sport development and improvement. The UCLA Athletic Performance Sport Training Facility gives each athlete the opportunity to train and enhance performance capabilities in the best facility in the country. UCLA athletes take pride in training hard to see winning results.
