UCLA Sports Information Office Earns National Awards

Bruin SIDs garner 10 national Citations of Excellence and five district Citations of Excellence.

LOS ANGELES - The UCLA Sports Information office had a banner year in publications contests earning 10 national Citations of Excellence and five district Citations of Excellence from College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The 10 national honors included five Best in the Nation awards. Alex Timiraos won three Best in the Nation awards, winning Best Rowing Guide, Best Men's Water Polo Guide and Best Women's Water Polo Guide in the national competition. James Ybiernas won two Best in the Nation awards, winning Best Softball Guide and Best Cover (softball guide).

Marc Dellins, Steve Rourke and Stephanie Sampson combined to place second nationally in the football media guide contest. Liza David's gymnastics guide also placed second in the country.

Timiraos' men's water polo guide finished third in the country in the Single-Sport Guides competition while the women's water polo guided placed fourth nationally in that same category.

Timiraos combined with Ryan Finney to place fourth in the nation in the men's basketball guide competition.

The men's basketball media guide also placed first in District 8, which is comprised of all institutions in Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, British Columbia and Yukon.

The men's water polo guide also ranked No. 1 in District 8, just ahead of the Bruins' women's water polo guide, which ranked second. Liza David and Steve Rourke combined to place second in District 8 in the women's basketball contest while Danny Harrington's women's soccer guide placed second in District 8 competition.
