UCLA Launches The Bruin Varsity Club

UCLA to host annual Bruin Varsity Club Tailgate Party Oct. 28.

Sept. 18, 2006

The UCLA athletic department is proud to announce the launching of the Bruin Varsity Club, formerly know as the "Life Pass Program". The Bruin Varsity Club program will be fresh, exciting and an incredible opportunity for former UCLA student-athletes to rekindle their involvement with the UCLA athletic program, teammates and coaches.

MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the Bruin Varsity Club is to sustain, encourage and support the growth and tradition of UCLA Intercollegiate Athletics. The Bruin Varsity Club serves to bridge the gap between all UCLA varsity sports, various generations of athletes and their geographical locations.

Through the common bond of athletics and Bruin pride, the Bruin Varsity Club will promote and develop the ongoing relationship between all former UCLA varsity letterwinners and the existing UCLA Athletic program.

The Bruin Varsity Club embraces the University's primary goal of academic excellence, while acknowledging and honoring its members as an integral part of the most successful athletic program in the history of college sports.

Athletic Director Dan Guerrero said, "Having had the privilege of wearing the UCLA blue and gold myself, I know that if it wasn't for our former student-athletes we wouldn't be where we are today as far as tradition and athletics success. The Bruin Varsity Club will be a way to involve, recognize and honor the UCLA athletes who contributed to their sport while at UCLA whether, it be five years ago or fifty years ago."

Bruin Varsity Club director Amanda Hall

Amanda Hall, a 2000 UCLA graduate and former student-athlete, will head up the newly-formed Bruin Varsity Club. A long-time member of the Bruin family, Amanda first came to UCLA as a student-athlete out of Massachusetts. While at UCLA, she was a two-time NCAA swimming All-American, Academic All-American and team captain. Upon graduation, she accepted a position in the Athletic Department as Assistant Director of Recruiting. Amanda is now the Director of the Bruin Varsity Club, under the leadership of Senior Associate Athletic Director of External Affairs, Ross Bjork.

"This is a very exciting time for UCLA Athletics," Hall said. "With 99 NCAA titles already in hand, UCLA has a great opportunity this academic year to become the first collegiate program to win 100 NCAA titles. The timing could not be better to inaugurate the Bruin Varsity Club. The ultimate goal of the Bruin Varsity Club is to give thousands of former student-athletes an opportunity to return to UCLA, rekindle relationships and reconnect with their fellow teammates, coaches and other former student-athletes."

On Oct. 28, 2006, the Bruin Varsity Club will be hosting its Annual Bruin Varsity Club Tailgate Party, which will take place at the Rose Bowl prior to start of the 4:00 pm UCLA vs. Washington State football game. More information will be posted at UCLABruins.com as it becomes available.
