Jason Kapono Scores Big For Team Prime Time

Oct. 26, 2004

UCLA legend Jason Kapono forged a national reputation as a clutch shooter and team leader so it should come as no surprise that when he got his shot to share his passion for basketball with, and lend a helping hand to, the youth of Los Angeles, he nailed it.

Kapono, who now suits up for the NBA's expansion CHARLOTTE BOBCATS, headlined Team Prime Time's 2nd annual Basketball Camp, which emphasized the fundamentals of all phases of the game. Jason, of course, shared some of the secrets that make him one of the NBA's most feared shooters. Over 100 athletes, ages 7-16 participated.

1-on-1 challenges versus Kapono were one of many camp highlights. The camp generated much-needed funds for, and awareness of, TPT programs. "The camps were that much more special for me knowing that they were supporting such a worthy cause," said Kapono. "I hope the kids had as much fun as I did."

9 year old Daniel Connell certainly did. "I learned a lot but I will never forget how cool Jason wdas-he signed both of my shoes," he said, adding, "The Bobcats are my new favorite team because of Jason."

Former All-American and vintage Bruin great "Rocket" Rod Foster also stopped by to dazzle future bruins with his own set of shooting and ball-handling skill sessions.

Safely entrenched in Bruin lore, Kapono and Foster now join another storied tradition: the growing relationship between UCLA and the Team Prime Time after-school program. As Kapono himself said, "I'm proud to be a part of TEAM PRIME TIME."
