Dalis To Retire As UCLA Athletic Director In June
Nov. 5, 2001
Peter Dalis, UCLA Athletic Director, announced today that he will be retiring effective June 30, 2002. Dalis will have served for 19 years as Athletic Director and spent 47 years on the UCLA campus as a student and administrator. "It has been very rewarding to work with such an outstanding group of coaches and student athletes, and I take great pride in having been associated with a program of such quality," said Dalis. "Pete Dalis has done an extraordinary job building UCLA's intercollegiate athletics program into one of the finest in the nation," commented Chancellor Albert Carnesale. "His management skill, vision and loyalty to the task will be sorely missed. "We will conduct a national search to identify a successor. I have asked Administrative Vice Chancellor Peter Blackman to chair a search committee and to bring forward candidates for my consideration. We at UCLA take great pride in the balance of academic and athletic achievement for which this department is well known, and it will be the task of the search committee to find an able successor who can maintain the high standards that Pete Dalis has established." Vice Chancellor Blackman indicated that the search process will take place over the next several months, anticipating an appointment in the late spring.
