Den Men's Basketball Campout Policy Amendments

To recap our discussion with regards to the occupancy by "Student Den" members for ticket campouts in the Fire Lane that surrounds the Pauley Pavilion, the following is provided.

  1. Den overnight ticket campouts will be permitted to commence beginning at 9:00AM on the day prior to the day of the men's basketball game for which students intend to camp out. (For examples, this would be at 9:00AM on Wednesday morning for a Thursday night game or at 9:00AM on Friday morning for a Saturday game).
  2. Fire Lanes, which surround Pauley Pavilion, require a standard minimum width of 20 feet wide by 14 feet height for access for emergency equipment/vehicles at all times by California Fire Codes.
  3. The use and placement of tents/structures shall occupy against the west exterior side wall of Pauley Pavilion and the north exterior side wall of Pauley Pavilion, unless otherwise identified and approved. (See attached diagram for reference.)
  4. Tents/structures referenced in item #3 shall extend no further than 7ft from the wall surface, (this does not include the building column spaces). Tents/structures larger than this dimension shall be considered as "Oversized".
  5. Persons seated in chairs, or in blankets/sleeping bags may occupy this same space identified in Item #3, observing the same 7ft. max. distance from the wall.
  6. At no time shall tents/structures/persons or any other items, block, impinge, and/or obstruct any doorway, exit or stairwell. Account for door swing where applicable.
  7. Once space can no longer accommodate tents/structures along the above identified walls of Pauley Pavilion and/or if "Oversized" tents/structures are used, these shall be placed in the "Programmable Space for Vehicle Use" area. This space MUST be reserved for this particular use by campout management representatives identified in Item # 13, through the "Campus Events" office.
  8. Interim decision: DIA deems no issue currently with power consumption. The Pauley Pavilion staff has been provided with cable tape (black and yellow that works well in taping down cords) in order to make the use of extension cords safe for both vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Students are permitted to use only available exterior outlets from Pauley Pavilion, NOT FROM ACOSTA. One source location is outside Gate 12 and another is available for those located near the tree line adjacent to Gate 14.For students in the overflow/oversized tent area, there are outlets available in the tree line outside Gate 13 in ground receptacles.
  9. No heat sources, open flames, cooking, candles, or similar items may be used or operated.
  10. Tents/structures and persons shall disband by 8am, game day.
  11. Restrooms are available overnight on the lower level of Drake Stadium (southwest corner) or the LATC Clubhouse, bottom level.
  12. A large dumpster will be provided for students to throw away garbage.
  13. Representatives responsible for the management of Den Basketball Campouts are the Den Advisor (Ryan Eklund, Assistant Director of Athletics Marketing) and the Den President (Matt Monges).
