Bruins Finish Well in Day Two of Season Opener

The Bruins continued their success in their outdoor opener Saturday in Day Two of competition at SDSU's Sheraton Mission Valley Aztec Invitational. Today's action featured the remaining field events as well as the middle/short distance events.
Once again, sophomore thrower Jaycee Olsen began the day for the Bruins, only this time in the women's discus throw invite. Today, Olsen claimed sixth place with a PR throw of 46.00m/150-11.
Senior Allison Koressel followed her fifth place finish in the women's pole vault at the NCAA Indoor Championships with a victory in the pole vault invite (4.03m/13-2.5).
Coming off a fourth place finish in the women's long jump at NCAA Indoors, sophomore Kyle Price came in fifth place in this weekend's 200m dash (23.84). Also in the field were junior sprinter Breyonna Hunter who finished 11th (24.32), freshman Kelly Rhines in 14th (24.49). and finally Tatum Souza (25.32) in 26th.
Hunter and Rhines also saw action in the women's 400m invite Saturday in San Diego. Hunter led the way for the Bruins with a 7th place finish (55.20) and was followed by Ally Courtnall (55.24) in ninth. The freshman Rhines claimed 16th (56.73).
Senior Turquoise Thompson came out strong in her return to the track this weekend. After being sidelined with an injury for most of the indoor season, she was able to pull off a third place finish in the 800m invite (2:10.64). Fellow senior Tiffany LaMar also had a strong outing in the women's 800m dash, taking fifth (2:11.78).
Price continued her day with a second place finish in the 4x100m relay alongside teammates Brea Buchanan, Ally Courtnall and Sydney Lewis (45.71). That was one of two, 2nd place finishes for the Bruin relay teams this weekend. Later in the day, the group of Breyonna Hunter, Tiffany LaMar, Turquoise Thompson and Ally Courtnall ran to a second place finish in the 4x400m relay (3:42.12). Freshman Sydney Lewis also took sixth in the 100m dash (12.23) in her outdoor season debut for the Bruins. She was the Bruins' sole representative this weekend in this event.
Lewis was one of several freshmen who had a big day in their outdoor season debut. Zibby Boyer jumped her way to a fourth place finish in the high jump invite (1.65m/5-5). Long jumper Maya Brown also found success today, taking third place (5.87m/19-3.25).
The men's team opens their outdoor season next Saturday, March 23rd, against Texas and then both squads will head to Austin for the Texas relays March 27-30.
