Cross Country to Compete at First Ever Pac-12 Championship on Saturday
Oct. 27, 2011
The UCLA cross country teams will travel to Arizona this Saturday to compete in the first ever Pac-12 Conference Championship Meet. Nine men's teams and 12 women's teams will vie for the first Pac-12 title as they race at the Wigwarm Golf Resort in Litchfield Park, AZ. The men's 8k race will start at 9:00 am, followed by the women's 6k race at 10:00 am. The meet will also be webcasted on FoxSports Arizona. The men head into the meet ranked 20th in the nation and fourth in the West Region after an impressive 2011 season, highlighted by two meet wins and several top 15 finishes at big name meets like the Notre Dame Invite (6th), Wisconsin adidas Invite (12th) and Stanford Invitational (2nd). Seniors Dylan Knight and Kent Morikawa lead the way on the men's side as both have taken turns in the No. 1 runner spot for the Bruins. Also competing in Arizona are juniors Alec Govi and Zack Torres, sophomores Dustin Fay and Nohe Lema, and freshmen Shayne Collins, Daniel Rosales, Lane Werley and Chase Zukerman. Last season, the men finished fourth, while the women were sixth. The women's team heads into the meet fresh off of a second-place finish at the Titan Invitational last weekend. Junior Katja Goldring again looks to lead the team after running in the No. 1 spot in three of the four meets she has raced in. Freshman Bronte Golick took the lead spot for UCLA at the Titan Invite and will look to bolster the women's performance. Also competing for the women are juniors Danielle Low and Sarah Toberty, sophomores Paisley Pettway and Melissa Skiba and freshmen Meghan Marvin, Annie Mooney, Kelsey Smith and Hannah Valenzuela. |
