Bruins Fall to No. 10 Arizona, 11-0

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Arizona's Kevin Guyette tossed a complete game, one-hit shutout and struck out 11 while the Wildcats' offense pounded out 15 hits en route to defeating UCLA 11-0 Saturday night at Jackie Robinson Stadium. Guyette faced just four batters over the minimum, allowing just a one out single to Tommy Lansdon in the second, a hit batsman and two walks as he improved to 5-2 on the season.
UCLA, which has now lost a school record 12 straight games, falls to 7-16 and 0-2 in Pac-10 play. Arizona improves to 20-10 overall and 4-1 in conference.
The Wildcats wasted no time getting to UCLA starter Hector Ambriz as they touched the ace for four runs in the first two innings. Brad Boyer's two-RBI double highlighted a three run third for Arizona.
Arizona posted four more runs in the fifth courtesy of a Jason Donald three-run home run and and Trevor Crowe RBI double.
Ambriz, in suffering the loss, falls to 2-2. The right-hander surrendered a career-high tying seven runs (six earned) on nine hits over four innings of work. Brendan Lafferty and Daniel Reid combined to throw the final five innings for UCLA. Reid was most effective, allowing just one hit over two innings.
The loss marks the first time UCLA has been shutout in 2005.
The Bruins and Wildcats will conclude this weekend's Pac-10 series Sunday at 1 p.m. Left-hander Brian Schroeder (0-1, 4.08 ERA) is scheduled to make his first career start for UCLA.
