SAN DIEGO- San Diego State freshman catcher Ryan Wickham hit a two-run home run in his first collegiate at-bat and helped the Aztecs to a 21-4 rout of UCLA in a non-conference baseball game last night at Tony Gwynn Stadium.

SDSU (22-16) jumped on starter Gabe Crecion (1-2) for four runs in the first inning before the Bruins (18-24) could record an out. The Aztecs then harassed three more UCLA pitchers for 17 runs, including three in the second inning, three in the fourth, four in the sixth and two in the seventh.

Aztec third baseman Alex Pelaez led the SDSU attack with four hits, three runs and three RBI. Leadoff hitter and center fielder Jason Pacheco added a double, two walks, scored three times and drove in three runs.

Bruin center fielder Eric Valent hit a two-run home run in the first inning, his 21st this season. UCLA first baseman Cassidy Olson and Jack Santora also went yard.

Seven Aztec pitchers combined to hold the Bruins to nine hits and junior left-hander Joe Garibaldi (1-1) was credited with the win. Ty Halvorson, Matt Seiler, Chad Wanders and Ruben Aguilera shut out UCLA over the final four innings.

UCLA will next play Arizona State on Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Tempe, Ariz.
