Baseball Drops Game to ASU, 18-4

TEMPE, Ariz. -- The 16th-ranked Arizona State baseball team (31-14, 17-6 Six-Pac) extended its winning streak to 11 games overall and 12 in conference play with an 18-4 win over the UCLA Bruins (18-27, 10-17 Six-Pac) this afternoon in front of a crowd of 3,017 at Packard Stadium.
ASU has now swept four straight conference series - the most since 1990 when the Sun Devils won 13 straight league matchups.
The Sun Devil offense was led today by Willie Bloomquist who went 4-for-6 and scored two runs. Shortstop Michael Collins finished the day 3-for-5 while driving in two runs and scoring one run. Freshman Casey Myers hit his fifth home run of the season, going 2-for-5 on the day with three RBI. Pinch-hitter Greg Halvorson hit his first homer of the season in the bottom of the eighth inning. Richy Leon also contributed for Arizona State, going 1-for-2 with three runs driven in and one run scored. Lefthanded pitcher Phill Lowery (8-4) got the win for the Devils going six innings and allowing only four hits and one earned run. Lowery also struck out eight.
Picking up the loss for the Bruins was starting pitcher Chad Cislak (3-8) who lasted only two innings, giving up seven earned runs on nine hits and one strikeout. Offensively for UCLA, rightfielder Eric Byrnes went 1-for-4 with his eighth home run of the season. Third baseman Garrett Atkins also drove in a run for the Bruins and extended his hitting streak to 29 games with a 1-for-5 outing.
