Los Angeles - UCLA right-hander Tyson Brummett (8-4) allowed three runs (two earned) off five hits to lead No. 18 UCLA past No. 12 Arizona, 9-3, Friday evening at Jackie Robinson Stadium. The senior from Salem, Utah, recorded his fifth win in his last five starts, striking out six batters in the complete-game effort. Brummett has recorded a complete game victory in each of his last three starts.

Bruin third baseman Jermaine Curtis continued his hot hitting as he registered a 3-for-5 effort with two runs and a career-high four RBI. Catcher Ryan Babineau finished 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs just three days after totaling a 3-for-3 performance at UC Riverside. Both Justin Uribe and Will Penniall hit 2-for-4 against the visiting Wildcats (31-10, 9-4 Pac-10).

UCLA (23-17, 9-1 Pac-10) remained in first place in the Pac-10 with the 9-3 victory. The Bruins' 10-game conference stretch has been the program's most successful such span since UCLA finished its conference slate with a 10-0 mark in 1924. UCLA has won 15 of its last 18 games and has tallied victories in eight of its last nine contests.

Arizona's Preston Guilmet (8-1) was tagged with the loss for the first time this season. The sophomore right-hander allowed four runs off nine hits in 7.0 innings, striking out nine while issuing two walks. Wildcat catcher Dwight Phelps led Arizona offensively, hitting 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Arizona got on the board with one run in the first inning when designated hitter Bill Rhinehart brought home left fielder Diallo Fon with a sacrifice fly to right field. Fon led off the game with a double to left-center field.

The Bruins answered with three runs in the second inning when third baseman Jermaine Curtis blasted a three-run home run, his first round-tripper as a Bruin, to give UCLA a 3-1 advantage. UCLA never trailed after Curtis' home run.

The Wildcats cut UCLA's lead in half with one run in the top of the fourth to trail 3-2. Third baseman Brad Glenn reached second with a double and scored on a sacrifice fly to left by catcher Dwight Childs.

UCLA added a run in the fifth inning when first baseman Cody Decker scored from second base on a base hit to right field by left fielder Will Penniall. The Bruins padded their lead with five runs in the ninth inning to assume a 9-2 advantage. UCLA used two hit batters, four hits and one error to score five runs.

UCLA resumes its series against Arizona on Saturday, April 28, at 2 p.m. The Bruins will send left-hander Tim Murphy to the mound, and Arizona will counter with southpaw Brad Mills in game two.

Game Notes: Jermaine Curtis notched his eighth multi-hit game of the season...Ryan Babineau collected his 11th mult-hit performance of the year and has hit 6-for-7 through the Bruins last two games... Brummett became one of 14 pitchers in UCLA history to throw six or more complete games in a season; he currently leads all Pac-10 pitchers with six complete games.
