No. 7 UCLA Baseball Loses at No. 8 Cal State Fullerton, 5-2

FULLERTON, Calif. - The No. 7 UCLA baseball team dropped a 5-2 decision at No. 8 Cal State Fullerton before 2,376 at Goodwin Field on Tuesday night. Third baseman Cody Regis led the visiting Bruins (41-12), going 2-for-3 with one solo home run as UCLA's seven-game win streak came to an end.
Cal State Fullerton (38-15) used two home runs to score five runs in the ballgame, taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run blast from designated hitter Tyler Pill. The Titans extended their margin to 5-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning with a three-run homer from first baseman Nick Ramirez.
Regis answered for UCLA in the top of the second with a solo shot to right field, his third home run of the spring.
Bruin right-hander Garett Claypool (8-3) was tagged with the loss, allowing two runs and three hits in six innings. Claypool struck out two batters and issued three walks.
Cal State Fullerton right-hander Noe Ramirez (9-1) earned the victory in relief of right-hander Colin O'Connell, who exited the game after getting drilled on his right hand by a line drive comebacker off the bat of Regis with one out in the top of the fourth inning. Ramirez recorded four strikeouts and no walks in 2.2 hitless innings.
Nick Ramirez notched his team-leading ninth save for Cal State Fullerton, pitching a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
UCLA second baseman Tyler Rahmatulla was the only player besides Regis to record a hit for the Bruins, going 1-for-4 with an RBI-single in the top of the eighth inning.
The Bruins conclude their regular-season schedule at home this weekend, opening a three-game Pac-10 series against Washington State on Friday evening (6 p.m.). Game Notes: Niko Gallego stole two bases on Tuesday night, pushing his season total to 21, the most stolen bases in one year since Eric Byrnes had 30 during his senior season in 1998 ... UCLA dropped to 19-4 in games played away from Jackie Robinson Stadium ... Cody Regis notched his ninth multiple-hit game of the season.
