The No. 23 UCLA baseball team defeated USC, 6-1, before 14,588 fans at Dodger Stadium on Sunday, Feb. 28. The paid attendance of 14,588 is the third-largest crowd to ever watch a UCLA baseball game (two games at the 1997 College World series featured over 18,000 fans at each ballgame).
Two weeks into the college baseball season, that figure ranks as the largest single-game crowd for any game in the nation this year. Last spring, 13,928 fans watched UCLA's game against Baylor at Minute Maid Park in Houston (March 1, 2009).
UCLA's baseball team has opened the season with a 6-0 mark, the team's best start since going 7-0 at the beginning of the 1997 season.
The Bruins are back in action against Waseda University (Japan) for an exhibition contest on Tuesday. Game time at Steele Field at Jackie Robinson Stadium is 5 p.m.
