HOW THEY GOT HERE...
UCLA (33-26 overall, 14-10 in the Pacific-10 Conference for third place) used stellar pitching from its three starters to sweep through the Long Beach Regional at Blair Field. The No. 2-seeded Bruins opened with a 7-3 win over Pepperdine, as senior right-hander Tyson Brummett threw eight scoreless innings. Sophomore Cody Decker's three-run first inning blast gave UCLA the lead for good against the Waves. The next night, freshman left-hander Gavin Brooks threw a two-hit complete game to lead UCLA past Illinois-Chicago, 3-1. Brooks hurled his second complete game in six days, sending UCLA into the regional final against Long Beach State Sunday evening. Sophomore southpaw Tim Murphy limited the host Dirtbags to one run over the final eight innings to register his first career complete game, as UCLA bested Long Beach State, 7-4. Six Bruins earned all-tournament team recognition and third baseman Jermaine Curtis captured MVP honors. UCLA makes its first trip to the Super Regionals since 2000.

Cal State Fullerton (36-23 overall, 10-11 in the Big West for fifth place) swept through the regional hosted by No. 8 national seed San Diego last weekend as the No. 2 seed at Tony Gwynn Stadium on the campus of San Diego State. The Titans downed Minnesota, 7-1, in their opening contest before taking a pair of games from Fresno State by scores of 6-4 and 13-2 over the next two days. The regional championship was the 16th for the Titans – their 11th on the road – advancing them to the super regional round where they have won five of their last six previous trips. Fullerton junior Clark Hardman was named the San Diego Regional MVP and was joined on the all-tournament team by freshman Josh Fellhauer and junior Wes Roemer.

SERIES RECORDS...
Cal State Fullerton took two of three from UCLA this season and leads the all-time series with the Bruins by a 48-22-2 count. The Titans lost the opener of the three-game series, 6-2, on Friday, Feb. 23, as Bruin right-hander Tyson Brummett registered a season-high 10 strikeouts in a complete game effort. Cal State Fullerton rebounded to take games two and three by the scores of 7-4 and 7-2 at Jackie Robinson Stadium in Westwood, Calif. Fullerton is 2-1 all-time against UCLA in the postseason, but the two schools haven't met in the "second season" since the 1979 NCAA West Regionals in Fresno, Calif., en route to the Titans' first NCAA baseball championship.
