Former Bruin David Huff to Play in Arizona Fall League Showcase

PEORIA, Ariz. - Former UCLA left-handed pitcher David Huff has been selected to compete in the second annual Arizona Fall League "Rising Stars Showcase" on Friday, Oct. 26 at Surprise Stadium in Surprise, Ariz. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m.
Huff, a first-round draft pick by the Cleveland Indians in 2006, is competing for the Surprise Rafters in the Arizona Fall League. In three games in the fall league, Huff has recorded eight strikeouts in eight innings, totaling a 1-0 record and 5.63 ERA.
The Rising Stars Showcase is the Arizona Fall League's version of the Major League Baseball Futures Game, typically played prior the MLB All-Star Game in July. All major league teams will have at least one player representing its organization at the Rising Stars Showcase.
Last spring, the left-handed pitcher from Huntington Beach, Calif., posted a 2.72 ERA and 4-2 in 11 starts for the Kinston Indians (class A). Huff totaled 46 strikeouts and 15 walks in 59.2 innings, limiting opponents to a .251 average before being sidelined with an injury in late May.
As a junior at UCLA in 2006, Huff became the first Bruin to be selected in the first round of the Major League Baseball draft since Josh Karp was chosen in the first round of the 2000 MLB Draft by the Montreal Expos. Huff hurled a three complete games, posting a 2.98 ERA and 7-4 record in 16 starts (129.2 innings) while leading the Bruins to the NCAA Malibu Regional.
Huff transferred to UCLA after pitching for Cypress College in 2005 and UC Irvine in 2004.
