LOS ANGELES - The UCLA baseball team has earned a No. 12 ranking in CSTV's Fall Top 25, as announced on Friday by CSTV. The Bruins are slotted as third most highly-ranked Pac-10 team, as Arizona State captured the No. 1 spot and defending national champion Oregon State earned a No. 4 ranking.
UCLA returns 25 veterans and welcomes 12 talented newcomers after having advanced to the NCAA Super Regionals last season for the first time since 2000. The Bruins' 2007 team totaled totaled a 33-28 record, including a 14-10 mark in the Pac-10 Conference. The Bruins finished third in the Pac-10, behind Arizona State and Arizona.
Fourth-year head coach John Savage and his coaching staff has recruited the seventh-best recruiting class in the nation, as rated by Baseball America, to help lead the Bruins back to the postseason in 2008. Savage's three recruiting classes at UCLA have been ranked the No. 5, No. 13 and No. 7 groups, respectively, by Baseball America.
The Bruins conclude their fall practice slate with the annual Blue-Gold World Series, which lasts from Nov. 12-18. UCLA opens its regular season with a three-game series against Oklahoma at Jackie Robinson Stadium on Friday, Feb. 22.
